Paediatric drug formulations. Part II. Lozenges, lollipops and extemporaneous suspensions
E ectiveness and safety of pharmacotherapy of paediatric patients largely depend on the appropriate form of medicine which child takes. The more attractive is a dosage form it is easier to achieve patient's compliance. Attractive dosage forms include lozenges, lollipops, and oral strips, which are presented in this article. Because of the lack of available medicines in appropriate form and dose for the use in children, the pharmacist faces the duty to make extemporaneous formulations from the available medicinal products. In this article the extemporaneous dosage forms used in paediatric practice are highlighted, taking into consideration formulary liquid oral dosage forms, especially suitable for children.
