Parenteral nutrition. Part 3. Principles of compounding and stability of parenteral nutrition admixtures. Parenteral nutrition (PN) has become an accepted method for the administration of nutrients. However, in some cases, may lead to potentialy dangerous consequences to patients. Complete mixtures could be compounded in the pharmacy to ensure acceptable levels of sterility and stability. The clinically important and very susceptible components to instability are lipid emulsion, vitamins and reaction of calcium-phosphate.This study presents: different systems for PN, principles of compounding and stability of PN admixtures.
