Plant phospholipids and its application in a contemporary pharmacotherapy

Plant phospholipids are interesting compounds often used in pharmacy, medicine and cosmetology. The main class of plant phospholipids is phosphatidylcholine (PC). The lecithin physicochemical properties, biological activity and range of use depend on PC content. Plant phospholipids rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, mainly linolic and linolenic ones have influence on the total lipids level in blood and on the hepatoprotective properties. Furthermore as a source of choline are effective in good functioning of nervous system. Resent studies show that plant phospholipids have many others physiological activities. In this work the therapeutic aspects of plant phospholipids were described as well as the characteristic of pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements with that compounds.
Keywords: plant lecithins, plant phospholipids, phosphatidylcholine, therapeutic aspects of plant phospholipids.
